Make Your Disney Golf Experience Magical for the Entire Family

There is enough Disney magic to go around for all members of the family, whatever their interests may be. Visiting the Magic Kingdom is an exciting experience for everyone in more ways than you would expect. For example, there are four highly rated golf courses right on the Disney World property. The Magnolia, Lake Buena Vista and Palm golf courses are all 18-hole courses and the Oak Trail Golf Course is a family-friendly course that features junior tees for young golfers.

Each course in unique in its features, making it easy to enjoy a Disney golf vacation in tandem with a fun, magical vacation for the entire family. The championship-style Magnolia Golf Course is the longest of the three Walt Disney 18-hole courses. It's a challenging course with water hazards at eleven of the holes and 97 bunkers to look out for! This highly rated course is suitable for golfers of all skill levels.

In 2013, Disney's Palm Golf Course was completely redesigned by golf great Arnold Palmer. With nine water hazards and 59 bunkers, this is a course that will accommodate both serious golfers and recreational players. The sparkling lakes and palm trees that decorate the course show off the natural beauty of the Florida woodlands.

Disney's Lake Buena Vista Golf Course is also surrounded by beautiful scenery and has been rated highly by Golf Digest. The PGA and LPGA tours have been played here, among other major golfing events. This beautiful and demanding golf course has been certified by Audubon International as a wildlife sanctuary, and one of the most challenging holes nestles in the middle of a small island.

While the three championship golf courses require carts, the shorter 9-hole course at Oak Trail Golf Course is a walking course with pull-carts available for rent. This course is also a designated wildlife sanctuary, and it has heavily wooded areas that provide homes for deer and other wildlife. The golf course is across from the Disney Grand Floridian Resort and Spa and the Polynesian Village Resort.

Three Disney World golf courses, Magnolia, Palm and Oak Trail, are directly across from these resorts. Staying at the Grand Floridian orPolynesian Village means your family will be right next to the golf courses and a short boat or monorail ride away from the Magic Kingdom. There are also supervised activities for the kids at both resorts. If you like, they can enjoy the company of other children their age while you complete a round of golf.

The five Disney Activity Centers are fun and secure places for kids to enjoy the magic of Disney while interacting with other children. At Lilo's Playhouse in the Polynesian Village, they can dress up as some of their favorite Disney characters. Children ages 3-12 can participate in crafts and activities, enjoy storytelling and movies, and even make their own menu selections for meals.

If you're interested in bringing your kids along on your golfing expedition, the Oak Trail Golf Course is the most accommodating for families. The shorter 9-hole course is made for regular athletic shoes instead of spiked golf shoes. It's easy for a family to walk the course, and younger golfers can use the kid-sized tees if they want to. This is the perfect course for bringing your tween or teen along with you.

Lake Buena Vista

Lake Buena Vista Golf Course is on the grounds of Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa. Disney's Old Key West Resort is also nearby, as is the Disney Marketplace Village. Although this golf course is not as close to the Magic Kingdom, it's minutes away because both resorts offer free transportation to other parts of Disney World. The golf course itself winds through gorgeous residential areas on the Disney property.

Staying at a Disney resort and playing golf on a Disney World course is your best bet for fitting in plenty of time to have fun with Mickey and Minnie while making time for golfing. However, there are plenty of other golfing opportunities nearby. Many of them are suitable for the whole family and some are even expressly designed to be family-friendly.

At the Four Seasons Orlando, the Tranquilo Golf Club offers family golf carts that can fit a family of four. Children twelve years old and younger can play free when accompanied by an adult, and golfing is half-price for teens ages 13-18. Golf clubs and equipment are available for rental, and there is a golf shop at the club. The hotel can also arrange in advance to have your own clubs shipped directly to the course.

If only one parent is a golfer, the other can always take the kids to nearby Pirate's Cove Adventure Golf. The two 18-hole miniature golf courses take players through an 18th century adventure that includes streams, mountain caves and foot bridges. While playing, you just might run into a marauding buccaneer! There's a discount when playing both courses, and children three and under are free.

Another option for fitting in golf practice is to play a 9-hole course while the family sleeps in. This should leave plenty of energy for an exciting day at one of the theme parks. The Grande Vista Golf Club at the Marriott is only ten minutes away from the Magic Kingdom. Although it's a timeshare resort, rentals are also available. In addition to the 9-hole course, there is a large practice area and greens for practicing your short game. Staying at the Marriott Vacation Club would make it easy to get nine holes in before the day even starts.

One way or another, you can always turn a family vacation to the Magic Kingdom into a Disney golf vacation as well. Disney has its own highly rated courses, including a 9-hole family-friendly course at Oak Trail. Staying right across the street from a Disney golf course during your vacation is one good way to ensure that it will be a relaxing golf vacation too. Orlando has dozens of golf courses however, and many of them highly rated and family-friendly. You and your family will all be able to have a great time on your Disney vacation!
